Senate Leader Pushes Mental Health Plan for Jail, Prison Inmates

State Senate leader Darrel Steinberg wants to break the pattern of jails and prisons being de-facto mental health facilities. He’s proposing legislation to provide more mental health services for prison and jail inmates, bringing back a successful program that was eliminated by budget cuts at the height of the recession.
