Poverty in California Report Shows Need for Safety Net

A new look at poverty in California says 8 million Californians are in poverty - more than 2 million more than the official poverty numbers. The Public Policy Institute of California and the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality have released a report called “The California Poverty Measure, A New Look at the Social Safety Net.” It says a quarter of all California children live in poverty, and it would be worse if not for a hand-full of social services programs.
