LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy May Leave Office

A local paper is reporting that LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy plans to retire. The leaked report suggests that Deasy’s last day in office will be next February. Deasy’s two year-term has been dominated by a power struggle with the UTLA teacher’s union, which has given a vote of no confidence in the administrator. The union says Deasy has diverted funds from public schools and into public-private charters during times of budget hardship, layoffs and furloughs. His decision to purchase 750,000 iPads while appearing in Apple promotional videos was also scrutinized. His unofficial resignation comes as a local elementary school in Cudahy faces its own battles with an administrator. KPFK reporter John Mathews has the story.
