Lawmakers Approve Governor's Prison Plan

An Assembly budget committee has unanimously approved Governor Jerry Brown’s plan to meet a court-ordered prison population cap, but the measure has drawn opposition from prisoner rights advocates. The move comes as the State Senate is considering another plan to reduce the prison population by improving rehabilitation and revamping prison sentencing laws.
