Lawmakers Pass State Budget

State lawmakers have passed a budget bill that makes modest restorations in some health and welfare programs, but uses conservative projections to balance the state budget. This marks the 3rd year law-makers have passed an on-time budget, something Democrats say shows the success of reforms like a majority-vote budget process that has ended a de-facto Republican veto power over state spending plans.
