Fresno's Trash Outsourcing Conflict

The Fresno City Council recently voted narrowly to privatize the city’s trash hauling service. That move has raised uproar from a broad alliance of citizens. Last Friday opponents delivered petitions to the City containing forty thousand signatures asking to rescind the decision and put the issue to a vote of the public. Twenty-two thousand valid signatures are necessary to accomplish that. In a further effort to block the move, community activists presented the City, today, with a lawsuit claiming the privatization decision violates State environmental law.
