Governor Jerry Brown will decide the fate of a bill aimed at limiting police participation in a controversial Federal deportation program called “Secure Communities.” The bill, known as the “Trust Act”, has passed out of the legislature and is awaiting action by Governor Brown. Several dozen religious and immigrant rights advocates held a prayer ceremony on the Capitol steps calling on Brown to sign the bill into law by a Sunday night deadline. The ceremony kicks off the beginning of what the activists are calling a “weekend of prayer for trust.” Reverend Debra Lee is with the Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights.” She explains the purpose of the vigil.
