State lawmakers returned to the capitol Monday for the final 4 weeks of the 2 year legislative session. The November election is hanging as a specter over the session, as Democratic law-makers try to make a case for Governor Jerry Brown’s November tax initiative. But lawmakers also face more than 600 bills awaiting action, including a gun control measure that’s become more pressing in the wake of recent mass shootings around the country.
