Court Reverses Layoff Protections for Struggling Schools in Los Angeles

A settlement to safeguard hard-to-staff schools in primarily low-income communities of color of Los Angeles has been reversed by a state appeals court. The settlement had allowed 45 campuses in the Los Angeles Unified School District to be exempt from layoffs. The teacher's union opposed the settlement, saying it allowed layoffs to violate seniority order. Pacifica's Dan Fritz reports from Los Angeles.
