GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN WILL ANNOUNCE ON JUNE 25TH HIS LONG-AWAITED PLAN FOR RESOLVING THE DUAL PROBLEMS OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY DELTA AND SUPPLYING WATER TO 25 MILLION CALIFORNIANS. THE BAY DELTA CONSERVATION PLAN HAS BEEN PUT TOGETHER BY NUMEROUS SCIENCE ADVISORS, WATER AGENCIES, FARMERS, ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS AND REGIONAL OFFICALS. THE PLAN IS EXPECTED TO STOKE A CONTINUING CONTROVERSY OVER A VAST ARRAY OF ISSUES CONCERNING THE DELTA’S ECOLOGY AND CITIES, THE FUTURE OF THE SALMON AND SPORT FISHING INDUSTRIES, AND MUNICIPAL WATER CONSERVATION, AS WELL AS AGRICULTURE IN THE DELTA AND IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY.
