Court Ruling Favors Salmon Over Mining

In a precedent setting decision, a Federal Appeals Court has ruled in favor of endangered species over a mining law more than a century old. A sharply divided eleven member panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held that the U.S. Forest Service violated the Endangered Species Act when the agency approved mining operations in the coho salmon habitat within the Klamath River watershed of northern California and southern Oregon.
