Oakland School Board To Vote On Decentralization Plan

The Board of the Oakland Unified School District is set to vote tonight on a massive decentralization of decision-making power. The “Site-Based Governance Policy” would give each of the roughly 120 schools in the system independent power over curriculum, scheduling, budgeting and staffing—but could represent a threat to unions representing workers in the district.
