Study Finds Premium Hike Causes Immigrant Children To Drop From Healthy Children

A study released this week by a national medical journal found that thousands of immigrant children in Los Angeles County lost health coverage because of a premium increase. Health Affairs, the renowned journal for medical professionals, says 1 in 5 low-income children of immigrants left the Healthy Kids program between 2009 and 2011 once it increased monthly fees to $15 per child. Health care experts and advocates for low-income immigrants say the facts are startling. They say a significant portion of a community has been left vulnerable. Ernesto Arce has more from Los Angeles.
