Toxic Plating Facility Closes In South L.A.

A South Los Angeles community is claiming victory after city officials
announced the closure of an environmental polluter across the street
from an elementary school. The neighborhood surrounding 28th Street Elementary has long complained about Palace Plating, a chrome plating company that was
twice cited by the city attorney’s office for contaminating
groundwater and toxic emissions. The facility has until December 31 to shut its doors or face what City Council member Jan Perry said would be massive fines.
