The autumn chill conjures up images for many Californians of browning leaves and holiday feasts with family and friends. For the state's farm workers it brings relief from the blistering summer heat as they harvest the fruits and vegetables that will fill holiday tables. Since former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger passed a 2005 emergency measure requiring regular shade, water and rest, the number of heat related illnesses and deaths has declined. But six years on, farm workers still are suffering and dying needlessly in the fields. Max Pringle has this in depth look at the issue.
