A Los Angeles City Council committee is holding a hearing to determine
the outcome of land that was once home to the South Central Farm.
The Budget and Finance Committee will vote on a proposal by Council
member Jan Perry to revise a deal that would remove a stipulation for
the real estate developer to donate 2.6 acres of the site for use as a
park. Supporters of the proposal say a successful clothing manufacturer
requires all 14 acres of the land and that once completed, will bring
much needed jobs. Former South Central farmers showed up to oppose the proposal saying the park will ensure some of the green space that was uprooted in
2007. Ernesto Arce files this report from Los Angeles.
