A south Los Angeles organization is calling on residents and workers employed in Vernon to defend the city from being dissolved by state lawmakers. Save Vernon Jobs is a coalition of labor, business and community groups who oppose AB 46, a bill that would dis-incorporate the city of some 100 residents. Business interests say they would leave Vernon if it loses its cityhood. They say the state action would increase business costs which would force them out. But state leaders say the city is corrupt and run by a small band of oligarchs who – in one case – drew a 600 thousand dollar salary.
