The nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization is holding its 102nd annual convention in Los Angeles this week. The N-A-A-C-P conference is themed “Affirming America’s Promise” and focuses on the struggles of underserved communities and the plight of young black men. Delegates heard from leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus as well as celebrities discuss health issues, the black unemployment crisis, growing incarceration rates and, for the first time, a town hall discussion on LGBT issues. Pacifica’s Ernesto Arce was at the Los Angeles Convention Center. He files this report from Los Angeles.
