Counties across California are preparing to take over the supervision of state prison parolees. County probation departments are expected to take over the task from state parole agents, as part of an austerity budget passed in Sacramento. But in Los Angeles County, Sheriff Lee Baca is urging the County Board to name the Sheriff’s Department as the parole supervisor, and the recipient of tens of millions of dollars in new personnel to get the job done.
