A group of artists held a musical picket line today outside of a meeting of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Grammy Watch Group is protesting last month's decision by NARAS to eliminate 31 Grammy award categories. These include Latin and contemporary jazz, Mexican Regional, blues, Native American and other ethnic music categories. Renowned musicians such as Pete Escovedo, Bobby Matos and others criticized the Academy's closed door decision. They say it's a blow to America's musical diversity.
