L.A. City Council Votes to Freeze Retiree Health Care

The Los Angeles City Council has voted unanimously to freeze the amount the city pays for more than six thousand civilian employees’ retiree health care. The workers, which represent almost half of the Coalition of City Unions, refused to go along with a plan to contribute 4% of their salaries to pay for retiree healthcare. The Mayor’s budget also proposes freezing retiree benefits for police, shutting down fire stations and cutbacks in homeless services. Dan Fritz reports.
