The Los Angeles Police Department announced today changes to its policies affecting unlicensed drivers. Chief Charlie Beck says the department would stop automatically towing their cars if a licensed driver can be found to drive the vehicle instead.
Immigrant rights activists have accused local police agencies of setting up sobriety checkpoints for the purpose of generating revenue. This morning, Beck acknowledged that the law hurt those who could least afford it: low-income, undocumented workers. Pacifica’s Ernesto Arce has more from Los Angeles.
