San Gabriel Valley Residents Oppose Azusa Rock Quarry

A group of residents in a Los Angeles County foothill community are fighting back plans to expand a local mining operation. The Save our Canyon group says the Vulcan Company’s plan to expand its Azusa Rock Quarry operations by 80 acres will be detrimental to their quality of life.

The materials company has a lease on the land and has proposed a site on the west side of the Azusa canyon which faces the populous San Gabriel Valley. Residents of nearby communities say it’s too close to schools and homes and poses a health threat to the entire community. Ernesto Arce reports from Los Angeles.
