Protests Continue in LA Against Police Killing of Guatemalan Immigrant

The Los Angeles Police Department is calling for reinforcements tonight in anticipation of another mass protest over the weekend killing of a 37 year-old Guatemalan man. 22 people were arrested last night during a second day of protests in the predominantly Central American Westlake-MacArthur Park neighborhood.

Manuel Jamines was killed on Sunday afternoon after police say he lunged at officers while brandishing a knife in one hand. He died at the scene. Community activists are calling for a vigil and rally tonight where LAPD Chief Charlie Beck is expected to address the community’s concerns. Eyewitness to the fatal shooting say the LAPD is covering up the truth. Pacifica’s Ernesto Arce reports from Los Angeles.
