Prisoner Rights Advocates Protest Gov. Schwarzenegger's Parole Denials

Prisoner advocates rallied outside of the state building in Los Angeles this morning to criticize Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for reversing parole board decisions to release inmates. The group Lifers to be Free wants the Governor to explain why, in the absence of a state budget, he would spend more state money to keep people incarcerated longer.

Prisoner rights groups say last year, the Governor was presented with 454 cases of inmates serving life sentences who were judged suitable for parole by his self-appointed board. He refused all their freedom.
