Judge Upholds Law on Police Misconduct Records

A Superior Court judge in Contra Costa County has upheld a new law aimed at unsealing records of police misconduct and use of force. Police unions had sued to block the law, known as SB 1421. Police watchdog groups and first amendment activists are hailing the ruling as a victory, but it’s still not clear when, or whether, police records will be made public under the new law.
