The FBI searched seven homes and an office and served grand jury subpoenas to anti-war activists across the country this morning. Agency spokesperson Steve Warfield said the actions are part of a federal investigation into the material support of terrorism.
Five residences and the office of the Twin Cities Anti-War Committee were searched in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Two other homes were targeted in Chicago. Activists in North Carolina and California also reported what they called FBI intimidation.
Most of those targeted are members of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization and its coalition groups. The FBI says it’s looking into allegations that the group has ties to Colombian rebels and Mideast populist organizations, including Hezbollah.
