Despite two years of relatively abundant rain and snow, conditions are still ripe for large-scale wildfires in the forests of the Sierra Nevada because of the recent five-year drought and climate change. The nearly 150 million dead trees, and more to come, could provide the fuel for wildfires that even fire experts say are burning with a ferocity and behavior unseen until now.
